The CBFC is seeking candidates with fundraising experience to help build the strategy, systems, networks and resources required to raise funds for the community radio sector. This includes experience with major gifts, private and public foundations, corporate partnerships, government relations, legacy giving, databases and processes. The CBFC invites volunteers to participate in the Fundraising Committee specifically or join the executive board, bringing existing networks and the ability to build allies for our mission.
The CBFC also welcomes experience and knowledge in any of the following areas: non-profit governance, financial acumen; broadcasting; legal expertise; arts, culture and entertainment; HR and community development. Ongoing director responsibilities include the effective oversight of the CBFC including fundraising outreach and support, financial oversight, strategic planning, the creation of organizational policies and practices, oversight of grant programs, and effective governance including Executive Director management.
Requirements
Board/Committee Meetings: Currently, the CBFC Board of Directors holds virtual meetings approximately every two months with the possibility of in-person meetings in the future. The Fundraising Committee meets once per month.
Communications: Email is the primary means of communication. Zoom is also used for virtual meetings.
Travel: If Directors are asked to travel for other purposes, such as meetings with key stakeholders, the CBFC will cover travel and accommodation costs, and Directors will receive a per diem for meals.
Compensation: This is a volunteer board. However, Directors may be reimbursed for expenses related to their CBFC duties, such as travel and telephone expenses if these expenses are approved in advance.
The applicant must be:
1. a Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
2. able to contribute on average 5 hours a month for meetings and committee work
Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:
- Energy, curiosity, desire to learn, collegiality, and commitment to the goals of CBFC;
- May include professional experience in fundraising, broadcasting, law and regulatory matters, finance and administration, arts, culture & entertainment, community journalism, and board governance;
- Can assist in determining the radio broadcasting needs of underrepresented, rural, and remote communities;
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work in teams;
- A diverse background and life learning experiences; and
- Bilingualism is an asset, but not mandatory.
