Connecting Canadian Communities

Our Purpose

Supporting community radio builds a better Canada. The Community Broadcasters Foundation of Canada supports stations in every corner of Canada, from small towns to urban centres, to university campuses to First Nation reserves. We work to ensure these stations have the resources they need in order to connect with, strengthen and educate their communities.

Community Radio

Across Canada, you can find more than 230 community, campus and Indigenous stations broadcasting programming in over 65 languages, including 11 Indigenous languages.

Community radio acts as a lifeline to preserve language, culture, and diverse perspectives.

It facilitates important conversations and disseminates integral information to remote and underserved communities.

Community radio stations are members of the communities they serve. Their goal is not to generate profit but generate the health and well-being of communities, the foundation of our nation.

These stations are supported by a network of volunteers and local employees. They create local economic growth, by creating affordable and targeted advertising opportunities for small and medium-sized businesses.

"We support and advocate for community and Indigenous broadcasters. There has never been a greater need for local stories, local news and local arts because they are the fabric of our communities whose very existence is under threat. Newspapers are closing at an alarming rate. Public and private broadcasters are moving away from local communities. In many cases, community and Indigenous broadcasters are the only media that exist to serve their local audiences through local voices. These stations connect, inform and empower local communities. Informed and connected citizens are not only vital for Canadian culture, but for the survival of our democracy."
